Philosophy and Vision
Like the revitalized waterfront areas at London Docklands and Sydney Darling Harbor, we see the Weld Quay area and its old waterfront – once the transshipment center for regional goods and the backbone of the island’s economy – as an area needing new life. In the United States, empty waterfronts in Boston, New York and Baltimore have produced turnarounds as new housing transformed wharves and crumbling old buildings reemerged as festival marketplaces.
We respect George Town’s traditional urban character and aim to restore the city’s sense of dignity and importance.
Our vision for our site calls for a plan that encourages tourism and economic development, and improves the quality of life in the area. The plan also lays out a strategy for telling the story of the early settlers and their commercial activities by enriching the inner city and giving new vitality to wasted, vacant shop houses, offices and godowns.
We aim to expand the ambitions of the pioneers and look for new ways to renew interest in city living and celebrating George Town.
